The farm, which is part of the Chequer’s Estate, has been managed by the Hares family since 1974. Today Richard, Julie and their son Daniel manage the farm while Steph – Daniel’s wife – looks after the farm shop and kitchen.
The farm is managed on traditional farming and other methods to help preserve the environment. This includes good rotation of crops, non-intensive meat production, high standards of animal welfare and rotational grazing to enrich the environment. The animals eat locally grown food – much of it from their own farm.
The pigs reared on the farm and sold in the farm shop are black saddleback and large whites. Their sausages are made in a local butcher’s using their meat.
Their Simply Pork sausages won a 2 star Great Taste Award in 2019.
The kitchen serves hot food and drinks at weekends, particularly to those walking through the Chiltern Hills.
